Is your health holding back your fertility?

I had to share this picture of Dalton with you today! If you know my story you know that I went through over 8 years of infertility treatments and finally have my baby boy :) Worth every minute of the wait - but I don't want you to have to go ANYWHERE near what I went through to get your own baby!

And you don't have to, if babies are on your brain and you have some health struggles going on, you need to address those first and then focus on fertility. In fact, your other health conditions will keep you from easily getting pregnant.

Did you know your body has a strong internal knowing and it will actually keep you from ovulating when certain endocrine systems are not strong enough? It's true. Here's something that is unknown in the fertility world. If you have issues getting pregnant you need to look at your adrenals.

It takes SO MUCH effort to deliver a little baby that if your body is weak or struggling with adrenal issues specifically (or related issues like thyroid disease, digestion, and anything that weakens your immune system) it will KEEP YOU from getting pregnant because it knows you wouldn't survive the labor and delivery.

Here's a few tips for strengthening the adrenals:

  • Eat snacks every 1 - 1 1/2 hours
  • Combine foods like celery and dates or romaine lettuce and mangoes
  • Eat wild blueberries

And finally support all your other systems so that your body helps you get pregnant easily. Check out my new group program The Pure Path if you are set on getting your health in check for wherever that may lead you. Food sensitivities are the first layer, but there's so much more....

Cauliflower Radish & Swiss Chard Rolls

Have you passed by all of the different leafy greens in the grocery store more than once because you just don't know what to do with them?

It's true, dark leafy greens are in abundance these days, and I'm so glad because they are nutrition powerhouses for your body. BUT if you don't know how the specific flavor pairs with other foods, or even how to start using it, then check out these this recipe I made last week with my swiss chard bundles.

Vegan Cauliflower Radish & Swiss Chard Rolls

So that's a mouthful to say, but you'll love to eat it! These are crisp, raw (almost), vegan and easy to make!

  • Swiss chard leaves (however many you want)
  • Cauliflower rice
  • Cilantro
  • Tomatoes
  • Black radishes
  • Broccoli sprouts
  • Sea salt
  • Dried parsley to season cauliflower rice
  • Avocado

1. Wash and pat dry your swiss chard leaves
2. Heat up a pan and lightly saute your 'rice' (NOTE: you don't have to cook this but I buy frozen and usually don't thaw it ahead of time so I just dump it in the skillet!)
3. Wash and chop your tomatoes, radishes, herbs, and avocado
4. Layer cauliflower rice on the leaves, top with other veggies, herbs and avocado and roll up. You may need to remove the thick stem at the bottom to be able to roll.

  • Double duty cruciferous veggie power with the cauliflower and swiss chard
  • Cruciferous veggies stimulate the growth of lung tissue, regeneration and healing
  • Swiss chard and collard greens are high in zinc, a great way to supplement your hair, skin and nails
  • On the emotional side, these veggies perfect when you're feeling confused or bewildered and help you remember you are not alone and to recognize people in your lives that have given you time, energy, love and guidance

Add this recipe to your menu this week and add proteins if that's part of your game plan :)

Check out my "How to eat healthy according to a dietitian" featured on The Every Girl website!

Last spring I was lucky enough to be interviewed by Cassandra Monroe, a freelance writer for The Every Girl (which is a super cool website if you haven't seen it before!) She came over to visit and cook with me and pick my brain about to eat!

I'd love for you to read the story she wrote that was just released!

Since this story was written, I've learned even more so some of the foods I eat and recommend today are a little bit different if you have an inflammatory or chronic disease or symptoms going on, but you will get the big picture idea!

You'll notice there are a lot of comments at the bottom of this post. The way that I teach about and talk about food is NOT MAINSTREAM although it is original.

Some people, (and note there are other dietitians commenting) come from different perspectives and that's ok, because I agree that no exact diet is right from person to person. BUT I also know what certain foods do for you and don't do for you. I don't care if 10000 people comment that you shouldn't eliminate dairy products. I disagree. And that's that. I have worked with enough people and studied enough that this is my knowledge and professional opinion.

I am not going to follow something just based if there is a research article about it because those can be skewed just as much as someone can write anything on the internet and it may or may not be true. This is what I know from personal experience, working with lots of people and many HOLISTIC experts.

The reason I don't recommend gluten or gluten containing grains is because they don't help someone heal and I work with people who need that. You can eat it if you want to that's always your call.

I don't line up 100% with what dietitians teach anymore and I'm ok with that. I've learned what I've learned and you can listen to me if you like. Try and see what works for you, and please leave a comment below the article if you feel so called.

Here's to eating to thrive!

Check out the article and let me know what you think!
