I was lying on the floor of my laundry room crying to my sister when the words spilled out of my mouth.

"I just want to feel happy and like myself again."

At the time, I was in the middle of IVF. I owned a pilates studio, had lost 30 pounds, I had run a marathon, and was in school to become a Registered Dietitian.

If you asked my mom, dad, sisters, anyone who knew me, I was "the healthy one."

So how was I here?

No period (my entire life), no answers. A stomach so bloated I looked five months pregnant. I was moody, and had stomach pain that stopped me in the middle of walks.

Everything I used to do to feel better and be healthy, stopped working.

This was the moment I realized what I was actually afraid of.

It wasn't IVF.

It wasn't infertility.

It wasn't bloating.

I didn't know what to do anymore. I realized I didn’t know how my body worked.

This wasn’t getting solved by a calorie deficit, more workouts or cutting sugar. My body didn’t care if I used any or all of my ‘diet tips and tricks’ because that’s just what they were, I realized none of that mattered to my body.

I thought health problems were random.

I thought fertility was random, both my sisters got pregnant and I couldn’t so hmmm.

I thought hormones were random.

I thought bloating was just something that happened.

That day became the best thing that ever happened to me.

Because I made a decision.

I am going to understand this.

I refused to spend the rest of my life living in a body that didn't feel like home.

That decision sent me down years of studying, questioning, researching, testing, praying, and rebuilding everything I thought I knew about health.

Not just what to eat.

But why the body responds the way it does.

Today, women come to me after seeing specialists, gastroenterologists, fertility clinics, functional medicine doctors, dietitians, and trying every popular diet they can find.

Not because they're lazy.

Not because they aren't trying.

Because they're confused.

They're eating healthy...

...and still bloated.

They're trying harder...

...and getting nowhere.

They're following the rules...

...but their body isn't responding.

Today, at 46 years old, I have more energy than I did in my twenties.

what happened when I understood by body?

I got my cycle back.

I became pregnant naturally after eight years of IVF and had Dash at 40.

I am naturally lean, healthy and full of energy every single day. I don’t know what a hot flash is…can’t relate. (OK I had them during IVF but now they are impossible).

I know exactly how it works and I’m not afraid of it. I don’t for a second of any day buy into the idea that anything is or ever could be ‘wrong with me.’ I trust it completely because I understand it.

I want you to feel at home in your body again, to feel good every morning when you wake up, to see yourself in the mirror. This doesn’t come from a protocol, or a diet. It comes from truly knowing your body.

No one can ever take that knowledge away from you.
